It’s National Apprentice Week 2023, which is an opportunity to showcase the advantages of apprenticeships. To celebrate this week, we are highlighting the experience of our current Digital Marketing Apprentice at Insight, Hoor.
Hoor started her apprenticeship in digital marketing in September 2022. Our team spoke with Hoor this week to learn about what it’s like to be an apprentice at Insight Consultancy. During this conversation, she shared her journey, what she has learned, and the impact this apprenticeship has had on both her personal and professional life so far.
What inspired you to pursue a digital marketing apprenticeship?
I have always been fascinated by technology and design, but I was unsure about which direction to take until I stumbled upon digital marketing apprenticeships. This field combines both of my interests, making it the perfect fit for me.
After doing some thorough research, I discovered what digital marketing entailed and realised that this was the perfect route for me. My digital marketing apprenticeship offers on-the-job learning and provides opportunities to develop my skills and enhance my knowledge.
What are some of the key skills you have learned during your apprenticeship, and how have you applied them in your day to day responsibilities at Insight?
As an apprentice, I’ve been able to pick up several useful skills that have helped me grow and develop, both in my personal and professional life. My communication skills have improved thanks to the frequent communication with colleagues and clients, which has also boosted my confidence. I have also significantly improved the ability to manage my time effectively. I can keep up with tight deadlines working in a fast-paced environment.
I’ve also learned how to solve problems efficiently. I can find innovative solutions to issues, and I love to think outside the box. And, when things change (which they always do in digital marketing), I have learned to adapt to new processes quickly, allowing me to keep up with the ever-changing demands of digital marketing.
I’ve been able to apply what I’ve learned in my apprenticeship classes in real-world scenarios at Insight, and it’s been so fulfilling to see the positive impact of my efforts. The journey has just begun and I can’t wait to see where my apprenticeship will take me next and what new challenges and opportunities it will bring.
Describe a typical day as a digital marketing apprentice at Insight Consultancy.
As a digital marketing apprentice at Insight, I am always being challenged to learn, grow, and make meaningful contributions. No two days are ever the same for me, which keeps working at Insight exciting and dynamic.
One of the best aspects of my role is that I have the opportunity to work closely with the entire team at Insight. This allows me to gain experience in several fields of marketing, as well as design, web development and business development, working closely with the skilled professionals in this team.
My role at Insight is diverse, allowing me to contribute to all areas of digital marketing and work on many exciting projects. Working remotely, I start my day by planning and prioritising my tasks for the day, followed by our morning meeting with the team on Zoom. In this meeting we discuss our day ahead which allows us to align our goals for the day ahead. As part of my daily routine, I focus on social media reputation management to ensure our clients have a positive online presence. This involves responding to comments and reviews, engaging with audiences, posting to stories, building a bigger audience and more. I typically follow a monthly content creation process implemented at work. As the month commences, I plan the content, move on to creating content around the second week, and finally make edits and schedule it during the end of the month. Throughout the day, I also like to support the team in various other tasks such as website development, creating Facebook ads, and more. I like to get involved in different departments to expand my knowledge and discover all the aspects of digital marketing.
So far, what have been the highlights of your apprenticeship?
As an apprentice at Insight, I get to have hands-on experience while also earning a salary. This is my first time diving into the professional world and I’m loving every second of it. I get to work at a fast pace, take on new challenges, and develop my skills and knowledge in real-time. It’s so exciting to be able to learn skills on the job and grow into a skilled professional.
Being part of the amazing team at Insight is one of the many highlights of this apprenticeship. Working alongside a team of talented professionals, I’m always learning more day by day. When I joined the team at Insight, I was welcomed as an equal, regardless of my skill set and background, and was given the opportunity to work on real projects.. This gave me a feel for a working environment and allowed me to learn from skilled professionals in the company.
From team-building activities to office gatherings, I’ve loved getting to know my colleagues and making friends. Getting to meet other apprentices from around the UK was another bonus of this apprenticeship which made this experience even more enjoyable.
Another highlight of my apprenticeship is the opportunity to apply the knowledge I’ve learnt in my apprenticeship to my day to day responsibilities. One of the many areas I have learned about in my apprenticeship is optimising a client’s social media presence. This involves creating a consistent brand image, posting regularly, engaging with the audience, using Google analytics, and continuously monitoring performance. I am grateful for the opportunity to gain this knowledge and put it into practice.
What advice would you give to someone considering an apprenticeship in your field?
If you’re considering an apprenticeship in digital marketing, the first step is to do your research. It’s important to find a program that aligns with your career goals and provides the training and development you’re looking for.
It’s also essential to be open-minded and willing to learn. Apprenticeships are a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience and build your skills in a real-world setting. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and take on new challenges! This approach will help you make the most of your apprenticeship experience.
