4 of today’s biggest business marketing myths: Part 2.

Last week we started looking at the myths that damage the impact of business marketing. This week we look at another common one:

Myth 2. “Always get on board with the latest marketing trends.”

Hillary Clinton, David Cameron, Beyoncé…these are just a few of the celebrities who took part in the selfie phenomenon which swept the world earlier this year. Everyone was onto it. The most agile and appropriate brands quickly leapt on board. Then came the latecomers. Many other companies wanted – for positive reasons – to follow the selfie trend. The fact is that embracing a trend is not always a good idea. Not only can it create the impression of a follower rather than a thought leader, but choosing an inappropriate trend could actively damage your brand. Taking part in a trend needs to be considered as strategically as everything else within your marketing approach.

We’ll address yet another business marketing misconception next week!
